An Arduino based project about a coffee maker, that works only when there is a conversation around it. The project was done in a team of two people. We wanted to explore how social situations around coffee drinking (an important part of Swedish social life) could be reflected upon digital devices. The coffee maker would be triggered by the sound of conversation and would have a threshold that needed to be satisfied in order for the coffee maker to make coffee. The project was also an exploration in the different applicability and exploitation possibilities of hardware, as the internals used were similar to the ones we used in another project called “Down wind”, however the purpose of the internals was drastically different. In this project I took part in the conceptualization and ideation processes, as well as building the prototype and it’s internals and programming the Arduino micro-controller.
